It is gratifying to see colleagues, friends, players who were there at the first match still competing with undiminished energy and passion. This year, managers will have the chance to compete in nine cities around Hungary with the final being organized in Budapest.”

The tournament is open to anyone from any company, city or country. The only condition is to have a partner, since this competition is not about playing solo. The aim of the contest is also to strengthen business – and personal – partnerships in a free-and-easy way. Golden Globe Awards: ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ wins Best Picture, Comedy or Musical.

Anderson gave a predictably Andersonian speech. He listed names of those involved in the film, but said he really wanted to focus on Hollywood Foreign Press Association. He then proceeded to list names of members of the HFPA, appearing to take great joy in their eccentricity. “These are the people I want to thank tonight and many others with names nothing like theirs, but equally captivating,” he said.

Similarly to previous years, he again handed over in person the Puskás-Ferguson Prize, set up by the Hungary-Scotland Society, at Old Trafford. This year he was also accompanied by Mrs Ferenc Puskás. The Corinthia Group celebrated its 51st anniversary with a grand gala dinner and awards presentation night held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa in San Anton, Malta.

51 anniversaryThe event, hosted by Corinthia Group Founder & Chairman Mr Alfred Pisani, was attended by members of the Pisani family, group directors, senior executives, long serving team members and employees of the year from all the hotels operated by the Corinthia Group internationally.

Award presentations were held in the hotel’s Chameleon hall and included continuous service certificates and awards to no less than 77 Corinthia Malta employees with 5 to 40 years of uninterrupted service and 15 ‘Employees of the Year’ from the company’s hotels and other subsidiaries in Malta, Hungary, Libya, Portugal, Russia, Sudan, The Czech Republic, Tunisia and the United Kingdom.

Presentations were followed by a ‘Hungarian themed’ gala dinner, held in the Corinthia Room, the hotel’s main restaurant and the company’s birthplace in 1962. Entertainment was provided by the Hungarian ‘Csicso Band’, a traditional gypsy band brought over from Budapest for the event.

Commenting on the occasion, Corinthia Chairman Alfred Pisani said “Commitment and determination have been our driving force from day one, as indeed they still are to this day. It was on the 6th of December of 1962 that the Pisani family had inaugurated the upmarket ‘Corinthia Restaurant’ in the family’s art nouveau villa in San Anton. The fine-dining restaurant was soon to become the focal point for the Island’s ‘gourmet’ society. By 1964, plans were drawn up for the 155-room Corinthia Palace Hotel on Villa Corinthia’s extensive grounds. The deluxe hotel was eventually inaugurated on 11th June 1968 in the presence of The Duke of Edinburgh.

sajttaj_20130903_029On 3 September 2013, during a press conference held in the Hársfa Room of Corinthia Hotel Budapest, the latest programme series of the hotel – Melodies and Dinner in Corinthia – was presented, in the context of which famous actors and actresses including Dorottya Udvaros, Barbara Hegyi, Gyula Bodrogi and János Kulka will make appearances over the course of the autumn.
Actress Barbara Hegyi, actor Gyula Bodrogi, General Manager of Corinthia Hotel Budapest Thomas M. Fischer and Joel Khalil, Executive Chef of the hotel, took part in the briefing.
At Melodies and Dinner evenings these artists will present their favourite recipes and delicacies that are important to them and have personal associations, and our chef will prepare these dishes to make the dinner a true gourmet experience.
Actors and actresses appearing on stage also entertain guests with quality programmes and musical shows, and during the evening they will share their personal reminiscences with regard to the individual dishes. What’s more, they are open to chatting with the guests and answering their questions, thus making these events really special occasions.

Corinthia Hotel  Budapest celebrates its tenth anniversary in style

10 years exhibition10 May 2013 – Corinthia Hotels marked the 10th Anniversary since the reopening of its Corinthia Hotel Budapest in Hungary with a gala dinner hosted by Corinthia Group chairman and founder Alfred Pisani in the hotel’s magnificent ballroom. Guests of honour for the evening were the deputy mayor of Budapest Balázs Szeneczey and Malta’s minister for tourism Karmenu Vella. Also present was Malta’s ambassador to Austria Colin Scicluna. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the hotel also inaugurated a permanent exhibition in the hotel’s grand lobby, featuring key elements from the hotel’s 117-year-old history.
Welcoming his distinguished guests Chairman Alfred Pisani said “I speak with a sense of awe at the history of this wonderful property. It is a landmark with deep roots in this city and I am pleased that Corinthia managed to breathe a soul back into it.”

The hotel originally opened as the ‘Grand Hotel Royal’ in 1896 to commemorate the Hungarian Millennium. The legendary building has had a chequered history, culminating in a superb renovation and restoration project conducted by Corinthia Hotels ten years ago.

Launching the exhibition, hotel general manager Thomas M Fischer said “This exhibition is a suitable memorial to the unique building’s multi-faceted history. It offers an interesting insight not only for our hotel guests, but for all the people of Budapest, who continue to be inspired by this grand building and who are undoubtedly pleased that it has been restored to its former glory by Corinthia”.

The permanent exhibition was compiled by the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism, partly through its own resources, as also from other documents and artefacts donated by former and current employees of the hotel, and which can now
be admired by the hotel’s guests, as also the general public.

In addition, Corinthia Hotel Budapest meets a further 80 requirements laid out by the European Finest Hotels organisation: adherence to accessibility norms, air quality, culinary options for vegetarians or allergy sufferers, a business centre with up-to-date technology and full business services, fine furnishings, electric adaptors, newspapers on demand, exceptional surroundings, originality in architecture and interior design.
